Garry Knox Bennett is a maker extraordinaire. He is an innovator, a maverick, and a iconoclast whose singular vision and expert craftsmanship shines forth in his multi media sculptures and functional works. Born in Alameda in 1934, he studied sculpture and painting at CCAC in Oakland and has working and crafting from his incredible studio there ever since. Garry is most well known for his whimsical and expertly constructed chairs, but has also had great renown for his jewelry, lighting elements and sculpture. He had a major retrospective initiated at the Museum of Art and Design in NYC in 2001 which included a venue at the Oakland Art Museum. His work has been exhibited world wide and we are very pleased to have him be a part of our program.
